Many of Americaβs hospitals and clinics face a significant shortage of medical supplies.
These range from Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) to blood and blood plasma. Consider the following outlets to provide help:
PPE
If you have PPE to spare (like masks, goggles, gloves, coveralls, and disinfectant), there are several organizations coordinating the donation effort:
- Mask Match β if you only have a few masks (<10), Mask Match will put you in touch with an individual healthcare worker, without you needing to leave your home.
- Project N95 β if you are a distributor or supplier of PPE, Project N95 will help you coordinate efforts to supply the most at-risk institutions (currently over 7,000)
- FindTheMasks β if youβd like to donate locally, FindTheMasks has a map of all institutions accepting PPE donations. Simply search using your zipcode
Making PPE
If you have a 3D printer at home (or have access to one), there are a number of Maker communities that you can help:
- GetUsPPE β register as a member of GetUsPPEβs maker community
- Prusa 3D β a popular compact 3D printer, Prusa 3D has assembled a global maker community, producing and shipping PPE internationally
Donate Blood and Antibodies
Covid-19 has caused a shortage in blood banks reserves. If you are healthy or have recovered from Covid-19, consider donating:
- American Red Cross β search their database of local blood banks to find a local near you
- Red Cross Plasma Donations β if you have fully recovered from Covid-19, you may donate your antibodies to use as treatment for others, which has been shown to be an effective treatment for Covid-19 patients
